The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1: Movie Review

Editor's Note: This review is spoiler free

Synopsis/Summary (Copied from Google): Following her rescue from the devastating Quarter Quell, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) awakes in the complex beneath the supposedly destroyed District 13. Her home, District 12, has been reduced to rubble, and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is now the brainwashed captive of President Snow (Donald Sutherland). At the same time, Katniss also learns about a secret rebellion spreading throughout all of Panem -- a rebellion that will place her at the center of a plot to turn the tables on Snow.

Pros:

  • Decent build up to Mockingjay - Part 2
  • Cast choices great, most actors did a really great job given the awful script
  • Katniss' blowing up the airplanes was a great scene
Cons:

  • Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress, but in this movie, she spends way too much time crying... Her horrible attempt at making people feel bad for her obviously didn't work
  • Script for Jennifer Lawrence was written horribly. They needed to spend more time building the script in the best ways to make Jennifer Lawrence's strengths show
  • The fact that the movie is split into 2 parts. This is what really drives me nuts. The producers/directors split this into 2 parts because they wanted more money, period. All of Part 1 could have been covered in 1 movie. Also, just 1 movie would have made for less crying from Katniss
  • The whole movie I felt like I was getting lectured. All this movie is is just a big long speech and crying, lots and lots of crying (we get it Katniss, you want to save Peeta, enough already!)
Final Grade: 3/10
